Electrical safety signage made with Flexilase laser engraving material

Which solution for electrical signage engraving and cutting?

Durable electrical signage starts with the right machine and the right material.

Electrical environments demand zero ambiguity. Whether marking circuit breaker labels on an electrical panel, identifying cable networks in industrial settings, or engraving technical plans inside machinery, every marking must remain readable for the lifetime of the installation. Misidentified equipment causes delays at best, accidents at worst.

Gravotech delivers laser and rotary sign-making machines and dedicated engraving materials designed to meet specific requirements, including the ability to handle hazardous environments. Our solutions ensure durability and clarity in electrical signage, enhancing safety and efficiency.

Which marking machines for electrical signage?

Laser technology ensures durable and clear markings, providing precise identification to ensure workers can quickly recognize and respond to potential hazards. It is compatible with various materials and withstands harsh industrial environments, guaranteeing long-lasting and legible results.

  • The LightSpeed 300 is ideal for small to medium-sized runs of tokens or labels. With a speed of 3.5 m/s and improved ergonomics, it is an essential tool for boosting your productivity.
  • The LS900 laser marking machine is ideal for higher-volume applications or longer strips, offering robust performance and increased capacity for demanding tasks.

Rotary technology is ideal for electrical identification due to its versatility and ability to engrave a wide range of materials with high precision. This ensures durable and clear markings suitable for various industrial environments, enhancing facility safety.

  • Our M20 X sign engraving machine is ideal for single or small series of strip, token, or label engraving. It ensures precise and efficient engraving for detailed applications such as safety instructions and caution requirements.
  • Our IS400 engraving machine is ideal for medium-volume electrical signage applications and longer plate engraving. It combines precision, reliability, and versatility to deliver consistent results on metal or plastic plates and panels.
  • Our ISx000 series is recommended for higher-volume applications or engraving longer strips. It offers robust performance and increased capacity, making it suitable for more demanding tasks.

Gravotech has developed a dedicated range of engraving materials ideal for electrical identification.

  • Gravostrat™ is the perfect material for signage and label engraving.
  • Gravoxal™ is generally used in industries looking for a reliable, sturdy metal backing (Gravoxal™‘s is in anodized aluminum).
  • Flexilase™ enables rapid production of self-adhesive tapes and labels.
  • Gravoply™ Laser or Gravoply™ 2 remain must-haves for versatile professionals. Please note that Gravoply 2 cannot be cut with a laser sign-making machine.

What are the applications of electrical signage?

Electrical cabinets and switchboards

Electrical cabinets and switchboards are commonly used in both the industrial market for manufacturing machines with electrical equipment and in the residential market for fitting electrical signage panels in homes.

Common types of signage include equipment identification plates, labels (strips and tokens) for circuit breaker identification, and Type 440 labels for push buttons.

Clarity and compliance are non-negotiable: misidentified components can create electrical safety hazards and costly downtime.

Electrical cables identification

Electrical cables are primarily found in professional environments, such as industrial settings, where they are used to locate and distinguish different networks or identify equipment.

Tokens (Type 420 labels) are used for this purpose. These labels are mainly attached to networked equipment using fastener strips (Type 430 labels), which are exclusively dedicated to cable identification.

FAQ: The 3 questions most frequently asked of our experts

🔽Which materials are best for electrical signage to ensure safety and durability?

The most recommended material is Gravostrat™, as it is validated by the static electricity norm (DIN EN 61340-2-3).
This ensures the material does not hold an electromagnetic charge, protecting workers and sensitive equipment.

For rigid metallic backings, Gravoxal™ (anodized aluminum) is preferred, while Flexilase™ is the go-to solution for flexible, self-adhesive identification on cables and curved surfaces.

🔽What is the best engraving machine for electrical signage?

The LS100 laser engraver is the ideal sign-making machine. Its surface area and capacity for long strips allow for high-volume serial production. Many professionals also opt for pre-cut tags, in which the machine is used solely for engraving. Gravotech provides both the specialized electrical-grade materials and the precise machines needed for these high-demand applications.

🔽Which specific signage is required for electrical panels and components?

Electrical panels and components require clear identification signage, such as labels for electrical panels, circuits, cables, components, and technical rooms. These signs are used in residential buildings and industrial environments, especially for machine manufacturing.

They must be highly legible, durable, fire-retardant, and made from non-conductive materials to support safe maintenance and emergency intervention.
